What is new? AGNA members “take ownership” of AGNA

AGNA Working Groups. Dear AGNA members during the 2009 AGM four working groups were formed which focus on four different themes identified as priorities for the coming year(s). The working groups will focus on; Government Civil Society Relations, the Legitimacy, Transparency and Accountability of National Associations, Membership Strategies and Global Advocacy. If you are a member of AGNA and are interested in any of the above themes or you have valuable experience which you intend to share please send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Affinity Group of National Associations (AGNA) was launched at the 2004 CIVICUS World Assembly in Botswana to convene national umbrella associations of NGOs and NPOs for the purpose of creating a forum to share knowledge and experiences on generic civil society issues and of encouraging civil society engagement and co-operation across national boundaries in the pursuit of mutual interests. Affinity Group policy

Affinity groups are groupings of CIVICUS members that exist to take forward CIVICUS’ mission and values. Affinity groupings can be constructed on a regional basis, around a particular area of interest, or around a linguistic or cultural identity.

Affinity groups agree with and actively promote the values and principles that underpin CIVICUS and engage in work that is consistent with the programmatic priorities of CIVICUS. All groups accept CIVICUS members within their ranks based on clear criteria. In addition, they sign a memorandum of agreement every two years with CIVICUS and are expected to be self-sufficient in terms of funding. Read the CIVICUS Affinity Group Policy.
