DataShift is providing direct support to civil society organisations so they can improve, scale or complete their projects by strengthening their capacities in producing citizen-generated data. Through the direct support process, we are also building a global community of peers and champions of citizen-generated data.
Direct Support Phase II
DataShift has piloted different training methods on using citizen-generated data (CGD) for campaigning on local and national sustainable development priorities. And, where possible, specific efforts have been made to support the coordination of these campaigns with efforts to implement and monitor progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The approaches tested include tailored workshops, developing a CGD campaign training manual, an intense two-day campaign camp with experts, providing financial assistance for CGD campaign activities, and online support from a DataShift capacity building expert. All the approaches had their strengths and weaknesses, however, success in every case was mostly attributed to a positive relationship between the civil society organisations (CSOs), DataShift and the training materials. Campaign Camp: Argentina
Citizen-generated data in action
In this presentation, Red Lac Trans, a participant at Camp Camp that works to promote and protect the right of the transgender community in Latin America, share information about the social media campaign they developed during the two day event. Their aim is to get 15,000 signatures in support of a new law on gender identity in all countries in the Latin America and Caribbean region, by raising awareness about the alarming challenges faced by transgender people on a daily basis.
