Toolkit 1 Pre-Universal Periodic Review consultation toolkit: Strategies for civil society advocacy, research & coordination

Pre-UPR consultations provide a valuable opportunity for civil society to come together to discuss effective strategies to engage in the UPR process. This toolkit offers a collection of possible activities civil society can consider undertaking during pre-UPR consultations, including:  i) creating a civil society UPR coalition; ii) developing joint civil society UPR submissions; iii) engaging with the government; iv) outreach to the international community; v) raising awareness about the UPR and; vi) follow-up at the UN Human Rights Council.

Toolkit 2 Post-Universal Periodic Review consultation toolkit: strategies for civil society advocacy, research & coordination

Post-UPR consultations create a space for civil society to collectively discuss potential strategies to influence and monitor the implementation of UPR recommendations. The toolkit provide specific actions civil society groups can pursue during post-UPR consultations including:  i) encouraging State acceptance of recommendations; ii) dissemination of the UPR outcome; iii) developing a civil society outcome charter; iv) follow-up with the national government; v) engagement with the international community and; vi) continued joint monitoring of UPR recommendations.
