"What are the chances that the tablets, syrup or cream on your shelf are counterfeit, poisonous, or both? We
have lost many lives to fake drugs due to inadequate track and trace solutions. Fortunately, data
collection and verification can help us match which product came from whom and
where it went, aiding us to streamline pharma supply chains and edging out counterfeits."

In my early years of University, I always wondered why a significant number of students fell victim to unplanned pregnancies and unsafe abortions. Sometimes, dangerous and unsafe abortion procedures and child delivery complications could go as far as taking people's lives. With research, I ascertained an outbreak of counterfeit sexual health products within the student market. According to the World Health Organization, up to 100,000 lives are lost every year in Africa due to fake pharmaceuticals. This is why we founded Uthabiti Health.

Uthabiti is a tech-based startup using data to hold health products providers, manufacturers, government and medicine donor organizations accountable on the safety of their health products. We use blockchain to store data and to track and trace its consensus across the supply chain. We attach unique asset identifiers with blockchain registration to pharmaceutical product packages and verify them through scanning and tracking. This enables the consumer to track the authenticity of the product before consumption by scanning or SMSing the asset identifier.

This not only provides safety to patients, but it also helps avert theft, corruption and product waste in the supply chain. Our goal is to create increased access to safe health products by providing open access to medical products' verification data.
