Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
WHAT IS IT?
The Commission on the Status of Women is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.
The seventieth session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 9 to 19 March 2026.
Following the major Beijing+30 commemorations in 2025, 2026 continues to serve as a pivotal moment to assess progress in the 12 critical areas of concern, including women's economic empowerment, violence against women, and political participation.
WHICH ARE THIS YEARS THEMES?
Priority theme
The focus of the seventieth session will be on ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, policies, and practices, and addressing structural barriers.
Review Theme
The review will include the assessment of women’s full and effective participation and decision making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls (agreed conclusions of the sixty-fifth session)
