The EENA in India was undertaken between February and July 2014 by the Voluntary Action Network India (VANI).

The research found that despite having a national law for registration of CSOs, state amendments to the law makes the process difficult. Proposed legislation such as the Direct Tax Code and the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, once enacted, will also affect financial stability and independent activities of foreign funded CSOs in the country.
