The UN World Food Forum (WFF) is a global platform that brings together youth, civil society, scientists and policy-makers to address the urgent challenges facing the world’s food systems. Each year, it creates opportunities for diverse voices, especially those often overlooked, to help shape more just, sustainable and resilient food futures.
The 2025 edition of the World Food Forum got under way on Monday, 13 October, at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome.
As part of our commitment to ensuring meaningful civil society engagement in global policy spaces, CIVICUS continues to champion the inclusion of activists, community leaders and grassroots actors in high-level decision-making processes.
In this spirit, we supported Laurent Cypria, an activist from Martinique, to participate in the 2025 WFF in Rome. In a written article (in French) and a video of his statement at the conference, Laurent emphasises why the perspectives of small islands and overseas territories must be included in global discussions on food systems, highlighting their cultural richness, unique agricultural practices, and vulnerability to climate challenges.
