The upcoming Summit for the Future, set for September 22-23, 2024, in New York City, marks a significant United Nations effort to tackle global challenges. A primary focus leading up to the Summit is the development of the Pact for the Future, an action-oriented document aimed at addressing diverse global issues. This initiative aligns with the UN's broader commitment to strengthen multilateralism and tackle complex global challenges in a sustainable and equitable manner.
As part of this process, civil society organisations, alongside other stakeholders, have been invited to contribute to the Zero Draft for the Pact for the Future. CIVICUS has submitted its written input for this draft. This submission is part of our ongoing commitment, building upon our previous submission to the Summit of the Future co-facilitators in December 2023.
In our submission, we recognise the Summit of the Future as a crucial opportunity to shape global governance outcomes towards fostering peaceful, just, equal, and sustainable societies. We also firmly believe that the Summit of the Future provides a unique platform to redefine global governance parameters in light of pressing global challenges, such as violent conflicts, inequality, climate change, and the erosion of the rules-based international order.
