CIVICUS at the Human Rights Council: Statements on Cambodia, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan

At the 30th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, CIVICUS presented a number of statements about the operating environment for human rights defenders and civil society groups in Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Somalia and Sudan. In particular, CIVICUS provided insights and recommendations on the security and operating environment for civil society in each of these countries. To read the statements, please see below:

  • Cambodia: Provides a review of the declining human rights situation and calls on the HRC to increase its monitoring activities in the country;
  • Somalia: Presents concerns about the regressing situation of violence and abuse towards women, and the citizen killings that have occurred related to military operations against Al-Shabaab;
  • Sri-Lanka: Reflects on the desperate plight of civilians during the armed conflict in the country nearly six and a half years ago. Also, provides analysis and recommendations on the human rights issues that persist as a byproduct of the conflict; and
  • Sudan: Comments on the serious threats to fundamental freedoms, equality and justice in the country.
